Descrizione
Alti 2 metri al garrese avevano corna lunghe un metro ciascuna. Si estinsero nel tardo Pleistocene e vennero rimpiazzati dal bisonte europeo in Europa e dal bisonte americano in Nord America. Sono stati talvolta raffigurati nelle pitture rupestri dell'uomo di Neanderthal.
Diffusione
Diffuso dall'Eurasia al Nord America nell'era quaternaria. Si pensa che questi animali si siano evoluti nell'Asia centrale o meridionale come i loro parenti uro, coi quali sono stati spesso confusi.
